Background:
Dr Selva Pankaj is an educator, knowing vs. doing gap researcher and an educational leader. He co-founded Regent with his life and business partner Tharshiny Pankaj in 1999, starting by providing private tuition for £20. He started his life in the UK at the age of 19, growing up in war-torn Sri Lanka and coming to the UK with just £100 given to him by his father in 1990.
After qualifying as a chartered management accountant, Selva worked in senior roles in globally renowned financial and investment institutions including Prudential Financial Inc for a decade (during which time he gained an MBA), then Fortress Investment Group, Schroders and Grosvenor. In 2009 Selva left the investment banking sector to become Regent Group’s CEO, a role he and Tharshiny now share as joint CEOs. In 2024 Regent Group celebrated 25 years in business. Today Regent Group works in education, impactful investment and economy building.
Selva had the great fortune to be a student of the late Professor Clayton Christensen at Harvard Business School in 2015. Clay changed Selva’s life completely by introducing him to the laws of nature and the idea that, if you understand those laws, you can achieve whatever you want to. Selva is spearheading Regent’s transformative evolution with the goal of opening a new British university to foster a growth mindset, promote lifelong learning and further the Regent ethos ‘the end result of education is character’.
