Our general English course includes 3 levels: beginner, pre-intermediate and intermediate. below you can see the outcomes you can achieve in each stage.

Beginner Level – A0
Students with little or no prior English knowledge are placed in this course. The goal of this course is to enable students to reach CEFR Level A1:
- Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
- Introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has.
- Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
Specifically, by completing this course, our students will be able to:
- Listening – Understand simple, standard speech and can recognise familiar words and very basic phrases concerning themselves, their family and immediate concrete surroundings when people speak slowly and clearly.
- Reading – Understand very short, simple texts, for example on notices and posters or in catalogues, pick up familiar names and basic phrases.
- Spoken interaction – Interact in a simple way.
- Ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.
- Spoken production – Use simple phrases and sentences to describe where they live and people they know.
- Writing – Write a short, simple postcard, for example sending holiday greetings.
- Fill in forms with personal details, for example entering their name, nationality and address on a hotel registration form.

Pre-intermediate level – B1
The goal of this course is to enable students reach CEFR Level B1.
- Understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
- Deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
- Produce simple connected texts on topics, which are familiar, or of personal interest.
- Describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
By completing this course, our students will be able to:
- Listening – Understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters. Understand the main point of many radio or TV programs on current affairs or topics of personal interest when delivery is slow and clear.
- Reading – Understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency every day or job-related language. Understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters.
- Spoken Interaction – Deal with most situations in an area where the language is spoken. Enter unprepared into conversations on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or on everyday life.
- Spoken Production – Connect phrases in a simple way to describe experiences and events, their dreams, hopes and ambitions. Briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
- Writing – Write simple connected texts on topics which are familiar or of a personal interest. Write personal letters describing experiences and impressions.

Intermediate level – B2
The goal of this course is to make students reach CEFR Level B1+ or B2.
- Understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization.
- Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
- Produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
By the end of this course, our students will be able to:
- Listening – Understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. Understand most TV news and current affairs programs.
- Reading – Read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt particular attitudes and viewpoints.
- Spoken Interaction – Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction. Take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting or and sustaining their views.
- Spoken production – Present clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects related to their interests. Explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
- Writing – Write clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects related to their interests. Write an essay or report, passing on information or giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view,

English File Book
The primary textbook used during our lessons is the English File series. This book offers a well-structured approach to learning English, combining grammar, vocabulary, listening, and speaking exercises. It focuses on real-life language use, ensuring students can apply what they’ve learned in practical contexts. Please note, Regent does not provide the English File book, so students will need to acquire a copy before the course begins.
Additional Handouts
In addition to the English File textbook, various handouts are provided throughout the course. These handouts cover a wide range of topics, from grammar rules and vocabulary lists to cultural insights and language tips. The goal is to complement the textbook, offering students further resources to reinforce and expand their understanding of English in different contexts.
