Regent's Best Programmer: Hackathon Challenge at Regent Middle East
Regent Middle East successfully conducted "Regent's Best Programmer," a programming hackathon designed to encourage students to showcase their Python programming skills, creativity and problem-solving abilities.
The hackathon provided students with an opportunity to apply their coding knowledge to a real-world challenge, demonstrating the importance of practical learning and technical innovation.
Building a Smart Budget Tracker with Python
As part of the programming challenge, participants were tasked with developing a Smart Budget Tracker, a Python application designed to process and summarise financial transactions.
The application was required to read expense data from a text file (expenses.txt), categorise transactions using basic string matching and generate a formatted weekly financial summary.
Students were also required to display all currency values in AED, ensuring that every final financial figure was formatted to two decimal places.
This practical challenge encouraged participants to demonstrate their understanding of Python programming, logical thinking, data processing and problem-solving.
Showcasing Programming Skills and Creativity
The hackathon received registrations from enthusiastic students who took on the challenge and demonstrated their technical knowledge and programming capabilities.
Through the competition, students explored practical approaches to coding, tested their ideas and applied classroom learning to a real-world financial application.
Following the evaluation of submissions, the competition concluded with the announcement of the winner and runner-up.
